I've been watching this guy who's kind of blowing up on Instagram and YouTube called Greg Lav. He is the owner of a healthy energy drink brand, apparently valued at almost a billion dollars.

He had a video that was titled something along the lines of "You are six months away from the life you want.”

This is something that I talk about a lot in a group chat with three close friends of mine. It got me thinking about the times where I actually underwent a six-month period of heavy work and came out the other side a different person.

There's at least four times in the last twelve years, which is the amount of time I've been working, that I can think of this happening.

2014: Learning from my first mentor and starting early Facebook ads agency

2018: Getting into affiliate marketing for Medicaid and auto insurance leads

Late 2022/Early 2023: Scaling phase of my CRO agency which I ended up selling

Early 2024: Merging companies with partner and scaling up home and auto insurance pay per lead

These are four times in my life when I worked for an extended period on multiple different goals at once and came out the other side completely different. There's not much similarity between each of these, other than that I basically disappeared. If you hadn’t seen me for six months or a year, you might barely have recognized the person I had become.

I am at a time in my life where I have sold my equity in the two companies I was part of. I've shut down or given away my equity and three others. I decided to stop doing one-on-one consulting for anyone under $30 million per year in revenue. And overall, I don't have much to do, so I look back on those periods in time where I made a lot of progress and have decided I want to go into another one of those phases.

The video from Greg Lav got me thinking that I haven't experienced a hard level-up like this in a long time. It's probably time to lock in and do so.

It also reminded me of two things my first mentor would say all the time.

The first one is “It's literally not that hard. You're like a hundred hours away of real work away from achieving it/it existing/being good at it. Just get started.” I’ve heard multiple people I admire say versions of this concept.

This mentor was the first person who got me into tracking my time with an hour timer and writing down what I did. So when he is saying “100 hours away,” he is saying it both as a concept and literally. As in, this is true. Go and literally time yourself and do it.

The second one is “just focus on five things, five goals at a time. That’s enough.”

He would often connect the second one to the first one, basically saying, "Choose your five goals and then do a hundred hours of timed work towards each of them."

All of this stuff is very good advice because it's true.

So what's the point of all this?

The point of this is that about a week ago, I actually decided upon five different things/goals that I would achieve over the next six months. Here they are:

  1. Get to 12% body fat and 215 lbs (I am 6 ft 6 in tall)

  2. Create a new Skool Group that does $100k+ MRR

  3. Get to $100k MRR with app

  4. Post 300+ pieces of content per month

  5. Grow my newsletter past 200,000 active subscribers

These are five tangible and realistic goals. It should be noted that none of these things are out of reach or require any beliefs, character traits, or skills that I don't already have. I think that's very important when you condense the timeline to six months.

I also think that all of these things are quite generally related to each other, so they're not five completely separate projects that would split my focus.

Posting content and growing my newsletter would help me fill my Skool group and get users for my app. And lowering my body fat and becoming healthier would put me in a position to better mentally perform and focus.

If you really do the math on it and you take this quite literally:

5 things x 100 hours = 500 hours

Six months = 183 days

500 hours/183 days = 2.73 hours per day

I think I'm more than capable of putting 2.73 hours per day into doing things that would really help my life, and I think YOU are more than capable of doing that too. In fact, both you and I will do likely 2-3x this volume. The difference is that this is targeted and purposeful instead of random.

So, what are some specific examples of things I may do to get my 100 hours in for each of those goals?

  1. Get to 12% body fat and 215 lbs

    1. Tracking calories

    2. Time spent in gym

    3. Time spent walking/cardio

  2. Create a new Skool Group that does $100k+ MRR

    1. 100+ hours of creating content

    2. Setting up the funnel

    3. Setting up the customer fulfillment

  3. Get to $100k MRR with app

    1. Development, testing, bug fixes

    2. Interviewing customers

    3. Making ads

  4. Post 300+ pieces of content per month

    1. Creating SOPs and finding examples of what I want

    2. Training team to help

    3. Creating the actual content

  5. Grow my newsletter past 200,000 active subscribers

    1. Writing the newsletter

    2. Create ads

    3. A/B testing landing pages

These are all tangible things that I probably have to do repeatedly to achieve these goals, and those are the things that I'm going to track.

I have made a spreadsheet tracker that you can download if you want to choose five things and do it too (click here to download)

I am going to aim to achieve all of these things by the end of December 2026, which is close enough to six months for me.

So far, so good. Much better than I expected. I've never really done this before in such a rigid and intentional way, but it's doing wonders for my productivity, my focus, and my overall progress in life.

Talk later,

Matt
